Home theater reddit is a subreddit for those interested in high end audio and video equipment. It’s a place to share, discuss and ask questions.
Traditionally, a home theater has a large format TV or projector and surround sound. Today, many people define a home theater as having a large TV and at least a basic 5.1 surround system. There is a ton that can be done beyond that (more surround speakers, Atmos speakers, room acoustic treatment, etc) but it’s not necessary to enjoy most movies.
In general, this subreddit has a lot of very passionate home cinema enthusiasts. They can get really obsessive about their systems. They might have meters of speaker cable running through their walls and they may have an Atmos setup that can shake the whole house. However, most home cinema systems are not comparable to movie theaters, despite how impressive the setup looks.
Home Theater is not for everyone. It’s difficult to justify the cost of the equipment, especially when tvs and soundbars are getting better all the time. It’s also a lot of work to set up and maintain. Some people prefer to just stick a big tv in the corner of their living room and call it a day.
